Combines that never served people

The history of Soviet combine construction began in the early 30s of the last century, when the first domestic unit of the same name was produced at the Kommunar plant. Already since 1932, the production of trailed combine harvesters S-1 was launched at the Rostselmash plant in Saratov. During the prewar years, machine-building plants assembled about 200 units of grain harvesting equipment for farmers. It played a leading role in the development of the country's agriculture. The industry reached a new, higher level in the postwar years. Soviet designers were able to create fundamentally new developments that surpassed reputable foreign counterparts. Unfortunately, they never made it into mass production.

In 1988, Krasnoyarsk designers proposed a promising Kedr-1200 model. The use of new materials and technologies has significantly reduced its weight. Attractive appearance, power, good throughput - such reviews received an experimental sample in Canada. Foreign experts acknowledged that it is 20% superior to the world-famous John Deere. But only 20 units left the factory conveyors - the medals received at VDNKh of the USSR did not help either. A similar fate awaited the self-propelled SK-8, which was planned to be produced in Taganrog. Its main feature: an eight-meter header, which was able to adapt to the terrain of the field. It could be folded and the combine moved quietly along the roads without interfering with traffic. Tests revealed a lack of engine power and problems with the design itself, they were rejected. In the promising model SK-10 "Rotor", a unique threshing and separating device was used, in which grain losses were halved! The cabin ventilation, electronics, tinted windows, adjustable seat were also advanced ... It was also not seen on domestic fields. You can see combines that were not mass-produced in the video from the Auto History channel.
