Drone Renault AIR4 rises into the sky

Automaker Renault has teamed up with Miami-based design company The Arsenale to create an electric-powered flying drone called the AIR4. The idea, which is taken as the basis of the concept of the aircraft, is to demonstrate how you can rethink the icon of the brand in 50-60 years. There is no official data yet, but there are rumors that the Renault 4 will be relaunched as a small and budget car in the near future.

According to the company, AIR4 is a symbol of independence and freedom. It is no secret that every year cars are becoming more and more. They literally fill all the roads, but the airspace above our heads is not restricted in any way and in the long term is a good alternative for fast, free and comfortable movement above cities.

The body of the drone has the same design as the original 4 Renault 1961. It is made of carbon fiber, a durable and lightweight material. The company says that the development and further flight testing of the device took tens of hours. Through numerous studies, it has been verified that the rigidity of the drone's body is sufficient to withstand the high thrust of the engines and the lifting force.

In each of the four corners of the makeshift car are large two-bladed propellers, like a conventional aircraft. There are no wheels in the design - there is only a stand on which the drone lands. It is powered by lithium-polymer batteries with a capacity of 22 Ah. The total thrust per screw reaches 95 kilograms.

Renault claims that the AIR4 concept has a maximum horizontal speed of up to 93 km/h. The drone is capable of flying at an altitude of no more than 700 meters and can tilt up to 70 degrees in flight. The maximum takeoff speed is 50 km/h, but this figure is currently artificially reduced to 14,5 km/h for safety reasons. Landing speed - up to 11 km / h.

Designed and built in France, the AIR4 drone will be on display before the end of the year at the Atelier Renault Museum in Paris. In 2022 it will be shown in Miami, New York and Macau. As for the original Renault 4, it is considered one of the "people's cars" with eight million units sold in more than 100 countries in 30 years. The last sample was released at the end of 1992.
