1600 horses: Koenigsegg unveils new Jesko engine

In the summer of 2020, production began on the stylish Koenigsegg Jesko hypercar, named after the founder's father. Today, Christian von Koeningsegg demonstrated in a video posted on the official YouTube channel the capabilities of the motor installed on the flagship.




The automaker has done a lot of work to make the engine lighter and more responsive to the accelerator pedal. The internal combustion engine is paired with the new Light Speed ​​Transmission, which is designed without the classic flywheel and clutch. The weight of the automatic transmission is only 98 kg. By saving weight, the hypercar goes from idle to redline on the tachometer (7800 rpm) in just 231 milliseconds - just over 0,2 seconds.

Of particular interest in the updated hypercar is a unique transmission. It is based on a 5,0-liter twin-pipe V8 engine. It is a redesigned version of the motor installed on its predecessor for the better. Koenigsegg deliberately worked to reduce inertia and built one of the most efficient internal combustion engines in the world.

New records

The result shown by the engine paired with the new transmission corresponds to an acceleration of 31700 rpm, and even this is not the limit. The real "magic" happens at the moment when the engine produces 8500 rpm - acceleration is 46000 rpm. According to Christian von Kenningseg, this is one of the fastest internal combustion engines he has seen in his life. The power of the internal combustion engine is 1600 liters. With. at a torque of 1500 N * m. Such results were achieved thanks to the installation of a new crankshaft, improved injection and turbochargers.



As an alternative to the standard Jesko, the company has the Absolute variant for those who have not only a lot of money, but also a thirst for speed. The hypercar in a special version reaches a speed of 482 km/h, and thanks to this it is the fastest by car, which was created by the company.

How much?

The 2020 Koenigsegg Jesko hypercar has a starting price of $2,85 million. This record will be broken by the new generation, which will begin deliveries in the spring of 2022. It is planned to release only 125 hypercars. For each of them fully equipped, the company will ask for 4 million USD, which makes the new model one of the most expensive in the history of the industry.
