"Skoda" in space: Lunar rover in the spirit of Enyaq is ready for release

Xtend Design presented its concept of the Luniaq lunar rover during the Czech Space Week. The rover was designed by Tomas Rousek. In appearance Transport you can guess that its design is inspired by the exterior car Skoda Enyaq. The developers themselves admit this, speaking positively about the electric crossover.

There are fewer and fewer unexplored places on Earth, and those for the most part are in the Ocean. Because of this, people are striving for expansion in space, and, of course, the maximum attention in this direction is focused on the moon. Such a fate is due to the fact that this is the celestial body closest to the Earth, on which the human foot has stepped. Xtend Design wants to continue its conquest.

Ship capabilities

The Luniaq lunar rover is assembled on the basis of the NASA MMSEV platform and is equipped with everything necessary for the effective and safe conquest of lunar space. The spacious cabin can comfortably seat up to four astronauts. Telescopic cameras are installed on board the ship to scan the territory. The option of remote control of transport at a great distance has been implemented. The large soft wheels of the lunar rover are made using Michelin Tweel technology.

An interesting feature of the multipurpose Luniaq is that its windows are not made of glass, but of transparent aluminum. Portholes made of this material are more resistant to collisions with micrometeorites, which is the reason for the increased safety of the ship's crew. Thin layers of polyethylene, which wrap the body, absorb solar radiation, saving astronauts from it. An excellent view for the "driver" is provided by the front window from the bottom of the cab.

According to specialist Thomas Rousek from Xtend Design, the goal of the project is to inspire people to space travel and give hope that very soon we will all move not only on Earth, but also on other celestial bodies. The universal electrification of the automotive and space industries is helping to accomplish this task.

Representatives from General Motors and Toyota also demonstrated their devices for conquering the moon. As for more mundane news from Skoda, the company recently showed a new generation of the 2022 Karoq crossover, which we have already talked about earlier.
