Porsche 911 is now the insane SUV for the Dakar
Porsche will be bringing a unique version of the 2022-era Carrera 4 to the upcoming 964 Dakar Classic rally. The 1991 model retains its original six-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission, and these are practically the only “native” components from the classic car. Nevertheless, many fans of the brand are delighted and are already looking forward to the race.

Under the hood of the rally Porsche is an improved air-cooled petrol engine. Its power is 300 hp, which is slightly more than the original. Due to the use of a non-standard suspension in the design of the machine, the motor tray almost reaches the surface of the earth. By the way, about the chassis - it deserves special attention double wishbones with adjustable shock absorption and 35-inch tires. Thanks to this combination, the car will definitely cope with the numerous jumps that are typical for the Dakar Rally.
The Porsche fuel tank holds 160 liters of petrol, so pilots don't have to worry too much about refueling. Of course, everything in the cabin is designed for maximum safety for the crew. In particular, racing seats are installed and a full-fledged protective cage is made.
At the time of the presentation, the body of the rally Porsche was completely covered with graffiti - drawings and inscriptions applied with red spray paint. This was done for a reason, the original move is a kind of tribute to graffiti artists from the 80s and 90s. Most likely, at the Dakar Classic rally itself, the car will appear in a slightly different body design.
If the rally-adapted Porsche Carrera 964 somehow reminds you of the legendary 953 that won the 1984 Paris-Dakar rally, it's no coincidence. Both the 953 and the 959 were the muse for this project, created by Agostino and Alberto Vassallo of Car & Vintage in collaboration with CountrysideWay and TAG Heuer.
