Honda SUV RS - for those for whom the HR-V is too big

At the Indonesian exhibition Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show, the Japanese company Honda presented to the general public a new car SUV RS Concept, which belongs to the class of subcompact SUVs. The car was developed here by the efforts of the local representative office of the automaker called Honda R&D Asia Pacific. In Indonesia, it is customary to apply the RS letter to sports versions of the Brio, Mobilio, City Hatchback and Civic models, but this is the first time in history that such a story has happened with a crossover.

As you can guess from the name of the model, at the moment it is just a concept car. Honda sees great prospects in it and plans to launch mass production under the new name ZR-V. This name was registered by a Japanese company in advance - in April 2020. Honda claims that the car will appear on sale for a reason - it was created due to the high demand for cars of this class.

As conceived by the developers, the new concept car combines modern technology, good driving performance and a sporty character, which at least manifests itself in the exterior design. Despite the fact that the car is assembled on a previously used platform, it will receive a completely unique body structure. From the photos from the exhibition it can be judged that in the final version we will have a high hatchback with a length of about 4 meters. Its front and rear optics are fully LED, and the design can be described as bright.

At the moment there are no technical details regarding the concept. You can only see its exterior and guess what is under the hood. There are suggestions that the car will be unified with the three-row BR-V crossovers. If this is true, then the Honda SUV ZR-V model will receive a 1,5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine with a capacity of 121 hp. With. It will be paired with front-wheel drive.

It is likely that the Honda SUV ZR-V will be available not only to buyers from Southeast Asia, but also to fans of the brand living in India and South America. The company plans to replace with the new crossover the former WR-V model, which has been produced by the Brazilian branch of the Japanese manufacturer since 2017 based on the Fit/Jazz hatchback. Serial production of the new subcompact SUV should begin in the first half of 2022.
