At the SEMA show, which is taking place in Las Vegas and will last until November 5, Toyota showed visitors the Tacozilla camper. car It is built on the chassis of a production Pickup model and is painted in the style of the 1970s and 80s.


Tacozilla became the leader of the Toyota booth in the exhibition space allocated to this manufacturer.

Fans of the brand know that the SUVs of the Japanese auto giant are reliable and have high cross-country ability. For this reason, many still regret the end of production of small-scale campers produced by Toyota in collaboration with Chinkook in the 1970s and 80s.

Marty Schwerter and his team at Motorsports Garage have taken the SUV back and got a successor ready for the SEMA show. The Tacozilla, as the camper was named, is billed as a travel vehicle capable of moving overland to any part of the world. The residential module is able to provide autonomous existence, regardless of weather conditions and seasons.



I had to create a frame for the camper from scratch. At the same time, the main task of the manufacturer was to keep the width of the base model as wide as possible so that the SUV could move along narrow mountain paths.

The main problem with homemade campers is the difficulty of creating a transition from the cabin to the accommodation unit. The Motorsports Garage team handled it with no problem. The fuel filler neck of the gas tank was moved so that fuel vapors would not enter the living module and the cabin.
Inside, the Toyota Tacozilla impresses with thoughtfulness and functionality.

The Motorsports Garage team specifically abandoned turbocharged options - such engines are not suitable for traveling in remote areas. And the usual aspirated will be repaired in any village.



The gearbox was chosen mechanical for the same reason - reliability and ease of repair. A winch has been added to increase cross-country ability and allow you to conquer the most severe off-road without fear.
