Cake motorcycles will get paper lining instead of plastic

The Swedish manufacturer, which assembles reliable off-road electric motorcycles, as well as urban models and mopeds, announced the start of cooperation with PaperShell. This brand is known for its developments in the field of composite materials based on natural fibers. They are an order of magnitude stronger than plastic, while the production of emissions of harmful substances into the environment is much less.

What is known

Cake representatives explained that cellulose-based products will be used instead of traditional cladding elements. In their manufacture, the level of carbon dioxide emissions is 7,5 times lower than in the production of plastic and 38,5 times less than in the production of fiberglass. Thanks to such indicators, it will be possible to reduce the harmful impact on nature to a minimum.

The strength of the paper-based composite is higher than that of standard plastic and slightly lower than that of fiberglass claddings. Therefore, the quality of electric motorcycles will not suffer. The appearance also does not differ from traditional solutions, since the surface is leveled and painted in any color. Today, work is underway on the manufacture of molds and the development of manufacturing technology at minimal cost.

Management comments

Stefan Ytterborn, CEO of Cake, explained that the company's top priority has always been to produce eco-friendly Transport. Work is constantly underway to reduce harmful emissions, which is why paper-based material was chosen, as it is not only environmentally friendly, but also ensures minimal carbon dioxide emissions during production. The main goal at this stage is to completely abandon plastic elements in the design of motorcycles. S. Itterborn believes that the developments will bring great benefits to the entire motorcycle and automobile industry in the near future.

Anders Breitholz, head of PaperShell, said the project is very important as it could mark the beginning of an era of replacement from plastic. They chose the best manufacturer of off-road electric motorcycles to test the material in difficult conditions. Today, the focus is on resistance to liquids, shock, overheating, as well as weathering and UV radiation. All elements will be tested under particularly difficult conditions to determine the tensile strength and refine the formulation, if necessary.
