Nissan and Toyota plan to reopen Russian factories in March

Representatives of the government of St. Petersburg, in whose territory the enterprises are located, reported that the assembly lines of automobile plants would be launched within a week. At the same time, there have been no comments from official representatives of Japanese companies yet, they should be expected on Friday or Monday. To date, management has refrained from making statements and promised to share plans after preparing an official press release.

The current situation

The Toyota plant stopped its work on March 4, 2022, sending staff on paid leave. The Nissan representative office announced a downtime on March 14, while a 3-week period was announced, after which it was planned to start the assembly. The decision to suspend was motivated by disruption to supply chains and logistical difficulties. All this time, work was carried out to stabilize the situation. According to insiders, Russian representatives managed to solve most of the problems. In the coming weeks, the issue with the shortage of components will be closed.

Toyota's domestic assembly line management did not comment on the current situation. The company adheres to a strict corporate policy and makes decisions based on the strategy, which is adjusted in the head office. Today, the data is being analyzed, but there is no talk of curtailing production, since the Russian market has been among the priorities in the past few years.

As for the Nissan company, in the first days of March they announced that they were carefully studying the information and would conduct certain studies in order to analyze the changes provoked by the sanctions. According to analysts, the news about the imminent resumption of work suggests that the company has resolved all issues and does not intend to leave the Russian market.

Today the situation is stabilizing. Due to the fact that many companies have stopped work, new opportunities have appeared and certain market segments have been vacated that can be occupied with a minimum level of competition.

Most of the brands represented in Russia have significantly increased the cost of cars, we should expect a rise in prices for Nissan and Toyota models, but this is planned to be announced in the first decade of April. The brands also intend to introduce several new products that were announced at the beginning of 2022.
Do you think other brands that stopped production will resume work?
