Geely temporarily shuts down BelGee plant

It seems that something similar is happening with the Chinese Geely. On the one hand, they perfectly see the prospects of the Russian market, especially in view of the growing number of vacant “vacancies”. On the other hand, the company is now part of the Volvo system. And this means that the world sanctions against Russia must be observed by her. And their desperate ignoring can seriously undermine the future reputation of Geely. It is clear that no businessman wants to play such a "Russian roulette".

Temporary stop with hope for improvements

However, manufacturers are in no hurry to make a tough decision, the huge market looks too attractive. In general, "they want it, but they are afraid." That is why they decided to act in the style of the "cunning Chinese". Production cars of this brand at the facilities of the Belarusian BelGee has been officially suspended since March 24, 2022.



But you can’t fool journalists, and American colleagues suggested another reason: the fear of suffering because of the violation of the above sanctions. In general, the Chinese decided to take a break and wait until the politicians carry out their showdown.

Recall that cars produced in Belarus are supplied to our country in large volumes. After that, through the dealer system, they are sent to the final consumer.



The preliminary shutdown of the enterprise has been announced for a period of up to April 1. But, most likely, if the political situation in the world does not change, then the downtime may last indefinitely.



If we see a positive trend, then the Chinese will not fail to immediately take advantage of it. After all, according to one of the experts of the automotive market in China, local manufacturers are very willing to be fully represented on the Russian market. This means that if Geely takes a confident step back, then its fellow countrymen competitors will quickly take its place.
