New Nissan electric cars will appear in Europe only from 2023

The Japanese company Nissan has decided to abandon investment in the development of internal combustion engines that meet the requirements of the European Euro-7 standard, which will soon replace the current Euro-6. The manufacturer does not plan to sell new cars with internal combustion engines, starting in 2023. Instead, Nissan’s European fleet will gradually be replaced by electric vehicles. The company is already fully prepared to expand its range of electric cars with six new products by the summer of 2022.

The Japanese company is striving to ensure that by 2026 more than two-thirds of sales in Europe will be exclusively electrified vehicles. The bigger goal is to have 100% of the company's revenue from electric cars by the end of the decade. With the six new electric-powered products mentioned above, Nissan likely won't stop there, and over the next 6-7 years we're likely to see a lot of interesting cars.

“Thanks to our global presence and partnerships with other automotive manufacturers, the opportunity to replace the gasoline fleet in Europe with 100% electric is a significant moment for the company,” Guillaume Cartier, Chairman of Nissan Europe, said in a statement. According to him, the manufacturer is ready to use experience in the development of electric cars and complement this with a revolutionary characteristic of the brand. The resulting cars must fully comply with safety requirements, and at the same time not give buyers a reason to doubt the comfort.

Nissan's current range of vehicles in Europe consists of several crossovers, the all-electric Leaf, the Micra, and the Townstar and Primastar light commercial vehicles. The brand recently introduced new hybrid versions of the Juke and Qashqai, while the Leaf received a new take. The popular supercar GT-R has ceased to be produced in Europe.
