Sales of large SUV Great Wall Tank 500 started in China

Great Wall has brought its large and brutal SUV to market. So far only to the Chinese market, but by car countries far beyond China are showing interest.


The Great Wall company has long fueled curiosity for its large SUV. The car is positioned as the main competitor of the legendary "rogue" Toyota Land Cruiser. The manufacturer claims that the Tank 500 is no worse, and in some nuances even surpasses the "Japanese". But the main advantage of the "Chinese" is a more affordable cost.

Especially for the Tank 500, Great Wall has developed a new platform. Despite the current fashion for crossovers, the engineers made the chassis frame. And rightly so - a real "rogue" should be like that, only then you can count on him in any situation.



The first debut of the car took place in August 2021. Then the SUV aroused the genuine interest of visitors and reporters. The manufacturer promised that serial production and the start of sales will begin in early 2022.

Before the advent of the Great Wall Tank 500, the brand did not have such uncompromising off-road vehicles of its own design in the lineup - with a longitudinal arrangement of the power unit, independent front suspension, on a frame platform, a continuous rear axle and real "old" rear springs.

But the “honest” all-wheel drive was abandoned in favor of an electromagnetic clutch, reasoning that in modern operating conditions, constant movement in 4x4 mode would be too burdensome for the budget.

The Great Wall Tank 500 engine, by the way, is notable for its appetite. The manufacturer did not declare fuel consumption, but a V6 biturbo engine with a displacement of 3,0 liters, developing 354 hp. s., simply cannot “sniff” gasoline.



A 48-volt starter-alternator helps to minimize the effect of "turbo lag" during acceleration. Its power is enough to spin the superchargers even at the lowest engine speeds.

The gearbox of the Great Wall Tank 500 has no alternative - it is a nine-speed automatic transmission. The basic equipment of the car includes four-wheel drive and a differential lock, but only the rear. You will have to pay extra for the front. Inside, the SUV is luxurious - the combination of wood and leather shows that the Chinese auto industry has reached a new level of development.

The cost of the Great Wall Tank 500 in China will be from 5 rubles. So far, the SUV is not going to be delivered to Russia.
