Mercedes and Bosch showed how cars will be parked in the future

The "Automated valet parking" system has been developed by engineers of two German companies for several years. They introduced the next generation, which is able not only to park the car, but also to maneuver through the underground parking, avoiding obstacles. This opens up many new possibilities, as the car will be able to drive autonomously for maintenance or washing.

What is the system

This is a complex of electronic modules installed in the car and sensors that are planned to be mounted in ceiling slabs. Due to the data exchange, the car clearly positions its location and is able to maneuver even in parking lots where there is very little free space.



First, the data is read to confirm that the parking space is free. After that, the car independently starts the engine and electronic modules necessary for movement. He goes to the specified goal, constantly monitoring the traffic situation in order to detect arriving cars or pedestrians.

If there are people on the way, the car stops and continues moving only after the obstacle disappears. This ensures the safety of the autonomous system and eliminates collisions and collisions with pedestrians. It does not matter where the parking space is located and how you need to drive up to it, the car independently chooses the best route.



The system is controlled from a mobile phone. It displays in real time where the car is and in how many minutes or seconds it will be in place. These technologies belong to level 4 automation, which today is not used almost anywhere.

System Perspectives

The developers emphasize that this is not just an automatic valet. If the project is implemented, the car will be able to charge itself on an adapted platform, drive to a car wash or a service center for diagnostics and repairs.

This is a new generation system that allows you to service a car when the owner is working or just walking. The driver does not have to waste time. At the same time, information about the location of the car is sent to the smartphone and you can make adjustments if plans have changed and you need to go soon.



The only obstacle to the implementation of such systems today are the laws of most countries, indicating that a driver must be behind the wheel of a vehicle. But work is underway to change the regulatory framework so that it matches the level of technology development.
