
Models Lada Granta and Niva Legends will be released without ABS
Sources familiar with the current situation at AvtoVAZ plants said that work is underway to simplify the design. In particular, versions without traction control and other auxiliary electronics modules used to improve comfort may appear. The simplification will affect only budget modifications of LADA Granta and LADA Niva Legend, the rest of the model range will not change.
The leadership of the Russian auto giant is working on the resumption of assembly. Since March 5, all production facilities have been idle. The conveyor functioned for only 3 days, Lada Granta and Niva Legends were assembled. If earlier there were problems due to a shortage of electronic components, now we have to look for new logistics chains to resume supplies.

Apparently, it will not be possible to establish an uninterrupted supply of the necessary components in the coming months. Therefore, work is underway to simplify the design and abandon not only the traction control module, but also some other electronic components. This is not a quick process, since it is necessary to change technological maps, adjust the regulations. It will also require adjustments to the procurement process.
Today it is determined which elements can be abandoned. Simplifying the assembly will entail changes in the assembly process, it is important to optimize it in order to avoid overlays later. After the preparation of technical documentation and its approval within the company, it must be approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. This process takes at least a few weeks. Therefore, negotiations with the ministry have already begun in order to minimize the time it will take to sign the documents.

The work will take about 2 months, the assembly of simplified configurations of the Niva and Grants is scheduled for May 2022. By that time, it will be possible to resolve most of the logistics issues and arrange the supply of the necessary components. At the same time, standard specifications will also be produced, the automaker is not going to refuse them. As for the rest of the models from the line, no design changes are planned.
It is also not yet known how the simplification of the design will affect the price. Cars will definitely fall in price, but specific figures can be calculated after the approval of the updated specifications.
