This compact hatchback is already popular among those who appreciate not only comfortable, but also fast rally-style driving, and the 6-speed manual gearbox has played a significant role in this. She is loved by enthusiasts from all over the world, but there is also a large audience of fans of rally driving without distraction on the "handle". It is for this layer of motorists that Toyota is preparing a new version of the car.
The prototype GR Yaris with automatic transmission number 109 was recently presented at the Toyota Gazoo Racing Rally Challenge motorsport event. Viewers could notice the modified front of the car. This is not done for design reasons at all, but only to provide a powerful air flow to the radiator of an automatic transmission, which, as you know, does not like overheating.

The vice chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, Shigeru Hayakawa, was behind the wheel of the prototype that participated in the rally mentioned earlier. He even joked that he had already broken the transmission once, which is part of the development stage.
The automatic transmission for the GR Yaris hatchback is a standard "automatic" with a torque converter. Engineers also thought about people who want to find a compromise between a comfortable ride and full return from the car, so the automatic transmission supports manual mode. After activating it, the gears can be switched using the paddles on the steering wheel.
Despite the fact that it is modified car with an automatic transmission is already in development, this is not a confirmation that the production model will receive a similar gearbox. If this happens, it remains to be seen when exactly and in which countries the car will be available.
