Russian aircraft engine PD-14 to be modernized for 14 billion rubles
The Ministry of Industry and Trade is interested in improving the domestic PD-14 engine. The Ministry will allocate 14 billion for improvements to the power unit. The competition has already been announced.
In principle, any specialized enterprise can participate in experimental design work. Only their management must understand that production capabilities must correspond to the tasks. Therefore, the circle of applicants will be quite narrow.
The experimental design work will consist of three stages. Each of them has its own key tasks. Completion is scheduled for December 2027.

The main task that designers will need to solve is to increase the service life of the PD-14. At the same time, fuel consumption must be reduced. The new version of the aircraft engine will be lighter, and they will try to reduce the noise level.
The peculiarities of serial production have not been forgotten either. In order to produce more engines, it is necessary to develop new methods capable of simplifying processes at factories. This concerns both assembly and production of parts.
During the development work, the PD-14 engines will be tested on the MS-21-310 passenger airliners. Aircraft will be equipped with improved experimental engines. After all, there is no other way to fully test them.
After completing each stage, you will have to report in detail to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. You will need to submit acts and reports, show the received certificates.
The start of the initial stage will take place soon – as soon as the contractor is selected and a contract is signed with him. The deadlines are pressing – the work must be completed in December of this year. The goal of the stage is to improve the units and systems of the PD-14. The technical parameters of the aircraft engine must be improved.

The second stage of development work will start in November 2025, that is, before the first stage is completed. In the process, it will be necessary to reduce the engine weight, while achieving a reduction in noise and fuel consumption. The work is scheduled to be completed in December 2026.
The third stage is the most important. It will begin in November 2026 and end in December 2027. The main goal is full-scale testing, implementation of new technologies. It will be necessary to prepare the modernized engine for serial production, and immediately mass production.
Let us recall that the current PD-19 aircraft engine received a flight type certificate back in 2018. Although JSC UEC-Perm Motors has established serial production, it is literally one-off.
