Russian Railways has begun work on restoring significant sections of the Trans-Siberian Railway
The largest carrier of the Russian railway network has opened the planned season of repair and restoration work on the Sverdlovsk direction. The implementation of the modernization program will be carried out in stages. The first details were shared by the press center of Russian Railways.
In some areas, the holding has already entered the active phase of work. The stage is planned to be completed by November of this year. In total, the teams will have to replace 145 switch-type switches, as well as restore over 300 km of track.
The main part of the program (more than 50% of the total volume) is concentrated on important sections of the well-known Trans-Siberian Railway. The sections are of regional and federal importance.

Some of them are characterized by increased load, including trains of increased mass, therefore their condition requires special attention on a regular basis. Restoration work on the Transsib and strategic routes will be carried out in the following directions:
✅ Ekaterinburg (via Voynovka and Perm)
✅ Novy Urengoy
✅ Solikamsk
✅ Nizhny Tagil
✅ Surgut
✅ Serov
To implement the program, the Sverdlovsk division of Russian Railways will use 5 stations of track machines and over a hundred units of special equipment. For example, full-fledged mechanized complexes with bulldozers and excavators are used to strengthen slopes, clean and form water drainage.
Work has already begun on some sections. Crews have begun replacing rail strings on the Koltsovsky, Demyansky, Aramilsky, and Zavodoukovsky directions.
The sections are located in the Tyumen and Sverdlovsk regions, as well as the Perm Territory. Given the volume of passenger and freight traffic in these regions, stopping operations for the duration of restoration measures is impossible.

As a way out of the current situation, an optimized timetable was introduced in these areas. Train in the context of the implementation of the modernization program. This approach allows for flexible schedule management, the elimination of possible failures in logistics chains and at the same time does not significantly "stretch" the repair work time.
The Sverdlovsk Railways Corporate Relations Representative Office emphasized the importance of timely restoration of tracks and related infrastructure. The company's press center noted that a timely approach allows maintaining the appropriate level of safety and uninterrupted operation of Russian Railways in the above-mentioned regions.
In addition, the modernization of the sections opens up opportunities to shift the speed limits. On the updated sections, freight trains will be able to accelerate to 80 km/h, and passenger trains – to 120 km/h.
