UAZ production in Cuba has started – the price is already known, and it is surprising
The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant SUVs have begun their difficult journey to conquer Latin American countries. Production of the UAZ Patriot and Profi has already started in Cuba. Local authorities believe that Russian SUVs will be popular with drivers.

The press service of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant told about the details of the project. The Cuban authorities were interested in building the enterprise. They were not satisfied with the usual supplies. After all, the country, still mostly agricultural, needs to develop its own production.

And this is how the automobile industry appeared. First, assembly from foreign car kits, then localization. As a result, production of own models. And not licensed, but simply "based on". This is how such Soviet giants as GAZ and ZiL started.
The plant for assembling UAZ vehicles was created from scratch. The main investor was the Cuban company EISA. They were assisted by the local distributor of the Ulyanovsk plant, the company Eco-Export.
By the way, all UAZ vehicles produced in Cuba differ from their Russian counterparts. Having learned about the partners' desire to cooperate, the engineers modified the vehicles. So they are in a tropical version.
The latter means that the cars have received a number of improvements that help in hot and humid climates. For example, the wiring is better insulated. It is not afraid of even a flooded car, not to mention being caught in a downpour.
And the suspension has been revised. They say it is adapted for driving on Cuban roads. What has changed is not reported. There is an opinion that there are "military" bridges there.

The starting price of Cuban UAZs has also been named, and it is unlikely to inspire local drivers. But Russians will be happy to learn that there are countries where a domestic SUV can cost as much as a full-fledged foreign analogue.
For the cheapest UAZ, Cuban dealers will ask from 29 thousand dollars (2,43 million rubles). It is unknown whether it is a Patriot or a Pickup. But this amount includes all taxes.
