Opel Manta and Lancia Delta: new - well forgotten old

The carmaker Stellantis has announced that two electric vehicles will be presented to the general public in 2025. car – Opel Manta and Lancia Delta. The Opel electric car will be the starting point in the manufacturer’s transition to producing only electric vehicles. It is noteworthy that the Opel Manta is initially a coupe, while the new electric car, built on the basis of its "ancient" predecessor, will definitely be an electric SUV. Not so long ago, we could already see similar transformations using the example of the famous Mustang Mach-E model.

The return of the Opel Manta was first announced in July 2021, when Opel and Vauxhall confirmed their intention to switch to purely electric vehicles from 2027. Already, the British brand is offering electrified versions of the Corsa supermini and the Mokka crossover, and fans of green energy will soon be able to purchase the Astra electric hatchback. Most likely, Opel Manta will be slightly higher in terms of cost, equipment and comfort. What will actually happen, can be seen not earlier than in 4 years - you have to wait.

Opel does not disclose any technical details regarding the new electric crossover. Only one thing is known - the novelty will be based on one of four unique architectures designed specifically for the production of electric vehicles. It can be assumed that the choice will fall on the STLA Medium base, designed for cars from segments C and D. In such a platform, it will be possible to place a battery with a capacity of up to 104 kW / h - this is enough for 400 km of travel.

Stellantis says it will equip electric cars with engines ranging from 167 to 241 horsepower, capable of accelerating a car to 100 km/h in just 2 seconds. Based on this, it can be assumed that the twin-engine version will develop power above 400 horses.

As for the Lancia Delta, Stellantis has no less serious plans for it. The original version of the car was sold from the late 70s until the late 90s and became a great success in rallying. The reincarnation of the model in 2008 was embodied in a premium hatchback, which was sold in England with the Chrysler nameplate. Most likely, the future electric car will to some extent correspond to the spirit of its predecessor, but not from the 20th century, but from 2008. Thus, the company will attract the attention of a premium audience, and with it, additional finance from the sale of cars.
