The power of the new diesel engine for the UAZ Patriot has been declassified – drivers’ opinions

The Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant has announced the power of the new turbodiesel engine that the UAZ Patriot will receive. This 2,0-liter power unit produces 136 hp. The engine is from JAC, with a torque of 320 Nm.

The diesel UAZ Patriot will receive a specially adapted manual gearbox. It has a short first stage, designed for movement under heavy load. They promise improved noise insulation of the cabin and the absence of vibrations.

The manufacturer plans to assemble 2 thousand diesel UAZ Patriots per year. This is about 15-20% of the total number of SUVs. If demand exceeds supply, the number of produced cars on heavy fuel will be adjusted upwards.

By the way, the JAC diesel engine is officially considered Russian. After all, its assembly was established in Yelabuga back in 2023. Chinese gearboxes for this engine are supplied by ZMZ.

Serial production of diesel UAZ Patriots will start before the end of 2025. Here's what Russian drivers think about it:

The price will be higher, diesel fuel has been expensive for a long time now – and why do we need such a “Patrick”? Another project doomed to oblivion.

– user “vitalyiserkov” starts the conversation

They will produce them for a couple of years, then they will take them off the assembly line. They will say that there is no demand. I have no doubt that this will happen. People buy UAZ Patriot only because it is cheap. If it becomes more expensive, it is better to buy something foreign.

– user “StepanLesov” supported the previous speaker

It's some kind of regression to take Chinese units and assemblies. Okay, components, but the engine and gearbox... What Russian will be left in a few years? The question is rhetorical.

– user “papak55” thinks

But I think there is no point in clinging to this UAZ. The manufacturer has been promising to improve it for years now - to no avail. But at least JAC will help. I approve of any forward movement.

– said user “Sergey.tikhiy”

Now tell me, is it worth calling an SUV a "Patriot" if it has a Chinese diesel engine under the hood? And also working in tandem with a manual transmission from the Middle Kingdom?

– user “goldbar” asks

I have already dealt with this turbodiesel from JAC. It does not pull its 136 hp. And it is very cold - in winter, while it warms up the cabin, you can turn into an ice cube.

– user “Balllllllooo” shared his experience

I don't understand why everyone is so worried. They asked for diesel - here it is. It's too bad now that it's not Russian, but Chinese. And ask who will buy a "Patrick" on heavy fuel, and there are no takers. Let UAZ install whatever it wants. They are developing these projects with their own money...

– the user “ZilistScan” ends the conversation.
