Russian police have adopted "cut-up" Lada Niva Kub vehicles

The Russian police have received extended Lada Niva Kub vans, created on the basis of off-road vehicles cars Lada Niva Legend.


Special vehicles have already begun patrolling streets in the regions, becoming an alternative to the traditional UAZ Patriot. The first batches arrived in Voronezh and Volgograd, where they are used by patrol and guard service units.

The Lada Niva Kub modification was developed at the Promtech plant. The design is based on the standard three-door Niva Legend.

After a major overhaul, the car received a semi-frame layout, an extended wheelbase and an original plastic body. The height of the car is 208 cm, and the ground clearance is 240 mm, which gives it excellent cross-country ability.


The passenger-carrying version of the Niva Kub was first introduced back in 2022, but the nine-seat layout proved irrelevant for police needs.

Instead, a three-seater sofa was installed behind the driver, and the rear of the body now houses a compartment for detainees, equipped with two benches along the sides.

The car retained all-wheel drive, a low gear and the original engine. It is reported that for the heavier version of the van, the engine will be modified, increasing the volume to 1,8 liters and raising the power to 106 hp.

The rear suspension of the car is made on springs with air cylinders, which allows better adaptation to the load and reduces roll when driving. The cabin has a dual-circuit air conditioner and heater. This is important for operating the car in the cold season.

The Nizhny Novgorod plant "Promtech" specializes in the production of specialized Transport, including vans built on the basis of Lada Granta cars.

In parallel with the Niva Kub, the police are also testing Grant patrol cars, and in the Tula region, Haval Jolion crossovers have been adapted for transporting lawbreakers.


Despite the emergence of new models, UAZ Patriot and Hunter continue to be the main vehicles of patrol services.

However, the use of the Lada Niva Kub will allow us to expand the fleet of official vehicles and offer an alternative to traditional SUVs due to its more compact dimensions and lower fuel consumption.
