Nizhny Novgorod tractor will receive a Russian engine instead of a Chinese one
The company "Nizhny Novgorod Freight cars" has begun testing the Valdai 45 mainline tractor with the new Russian YaMZ-770 engine.
This is an important stage of the localization program, which gradually replaces foreign components with domestic analogues.
Currently, serial versions of the tractor are equipped with a Chinese turbodiesel with a capacity of 470 hp, but in the near future a transition to power units developed in Russia is planned.
The new engine is an in-line six-cylinder turbodiesel with a displacement of 12,42 liters.

The engine was created by the Yaroslavl Motor Plant specifically for heavy trucks, of buses and special equipment.
In the standard configuration, it develops 620 hp and 3000 Nm of torque. For the Valdai 45 mainline tractor, the power will be changed to match the characteristics of the truck.
The manufacturer initially stated that models based on the Valdai 45 platform would gradually be equipped with Russian components.
Until this point, the tractor was assembled with a Chinese robotic gearbox, as well as an engine that was not adapted to Russian operating conditions.
The installation of a Yaroslavl turbodiesel will solve several problems at once: it will increase the reliability of the machine, ensure compliance with the requirements of the local market and reduce dependence on imports.
Tests of the tractor with the new engine have already begun. In the near future, the prototype will be sent for extended road tests, during which specialists will check the reliability of the unit in various operating conditions.
It is planned to evaluate fuel consumption, vibration levels, thermal stability, power unit operation under maximum loads and in extreme weather conditions.
We remind you that the Valdai 45 is a two-axle mainline tractor, which is produced at leased facilities of the Gorky Automobile Plant and is positioned as a competitor to the KAMAZ K5 family.

It is designed for long-distance transportation and has lower fuel consumption than its competitors. The manufacturer is working on improving the model's aerodynamics, improving the cabin and increasing driver comfort.
The use of the YaMZ-770 engine in a mainline tractor opens up prospects for further modernization of the model.
After successful completion of the tests, the Russian power plant may become a standard solution for the Valdai 45. This will strengthen its competitive position in the domestic truck market.
