Serial production of Baikal aircraft to start before end of year
UAC plans to complete the construction of a production building intended for aircraft "Baikal", by the end of the year. The building is located in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, on the territory of the investment site.
Construction began relatively recently – in January of last year. But things have been moving slowly so far. For example, work on forming the land plot is just about to be completed. They have already started pouring the foundations for the necessary buildings.
The production building will initially produce two dozen Baikal aircraft per year. Then, as soon as the "flywheel" gets going and units and assemblies begin to be supplied in large quantities and without delays, the capacity will be increased.

The UZGA company is responsible for the development of the Baikal. They will be engaged in production, or rather, their subsidiary, OOO SpetsAviaTekhnika. Moreover, everything has already been decided.
The Baikal aircraft will be equipped only with Russian engines. We are talking about the VK-800, which are not yet in serial production. But they promise to start production in 2025. So the two events should coincide in time.
Let us recall that Russia needs Baikal-type aircraft for a large-scale project – the revival of small aviation. The country’s president, Vladimir Putin, has spoken about this on numerous occasions.
He believes that even the most remote territories of the Russian Federation can be "sewn together" only with the help of small aircraft. Accordingly, an urgent replacement for the An-2 is needed. And it will be the Baikal series aircraft.
The cost of the model was set at around 455 million rubles. This is on the condition that serial production will begin in 2025. But after Vladimir Putin said that the price was frankly inflated, it fell sharply. It turned out that "Baikal" could cost as much as 260 million.

Experts cannot yet say exactly how this became possible. There are several possible explanations for the situation. Firstly, the difference between the price and the cost price can be covered by the state. In this way, it will facilitate the development of small aviation in the country.
Secondly, it is possible to produce aircraft in the most simplified configurations. Accordingly, those who need special options will be offered to retrofit the Baikals for an additional fee.
Thirdly, the manufacturer could simply artificially inflate the price. This version is more popular "among the people".
