The third bridge across the Volga will be built – the project has been approved and financed
A long-awaited bridge will be built in Yaroslavl across the city's main river. There are also plans to build an accompanying highway that will connect the Zavolzhsky and Frunzensky districts of the city.
The total cost of the work will be 65 billion rubles. The project is divided into five stages. The key one will be the creation of a connection between the banks of the Volga. It includes the construction of a bridge 813 m long, as well as right- and left-bank overpasses of 495 and 38 m, respectively.
The total length of the facility will be 1,3 km. A new highway will be built in parallel with it. The crossing will be four-lane, and the highway will have a variable width of 4 and 6 lanes.

It is noteworthy that the idea of a third bridge across the Volga was discussed back in Soviet times. The first plans date back to the 70s. For almost 50 years, Oktyabrsky remained the only connection between the two banks of Yaroslavl's key waterway.
In 2010, a second bridge appeared, which was named "Yubileiny". It was built on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the city. Nevertheless, the structure became part of the federal highway M-8 and was not able to fully relieve the city's traffic flow.
At the same time, a detailed plan of the Karabulinskaya interchange was developed. It was expected that the highway would be put into operation in 2014.

Upon closer analysis, it turned out that some decisions in the design documentation had become outdated, and the deadlines for modernization had shifted. Only in 2022 did the project receive federal funding with the support of the regional governor and the President of the Russian Federation directly.
The new bridge and the Karabulinskaya interchange connected to it will be able to radically change the transport situation in Yaroslavl. It is expected that the appearance of additional routes will reduce the load on the central streets and provide convenient communication between the southern districts of the city and Zavolzhsky.
Despite all the advantages of building a bridge and a highway, this event also has a "controversial" moment. Some residents of Yaroslavl are criticizing the project.

The main problem is the fact that the section of the route will pass in close proximity to residential buildings. At the same time, construction involves the seizure of 114 land plots. In response to complaints, local authorities guarantee to install noise protection screens and even replace windows in apartments.
The project has already received a positive conclusion from the Main State Expertise. The start of construction is planned for this year. The first stage will be the construction of a bridge across the Volga, which is the central element of the future Karabulinskaya interchange.
The region's infrastructure development will not end there. The global modernization project also includes the construction of seven modern transport interchanges.
