New Nuuva V300 cargo plane makes maiden flight

It has become known that the new cargo aircraft The Nuuva V300, a remotely controlled aircraft, took to the skies for the first time. However, for some reason, this event was delayed for more than a year.

The drone was created by Pipistrel, an aircraft manufacturer specializing in electric aircraft. They began working on it more than four years ago.

Main characteristics

The Nuuva V300 is a 300 kg payload unmanned aerial vehicle designed for use in hard-to-reach places, including unprepared landing surfaces. It has a hybrid-electric power plant, which includes eight E-811 lift motors. They are mounted on the aircraft's wings and are powered by a group of built-in batteries.

To move the vehicle forward, a cruise engine is also provided, which is located in the tail section of the vessel's hull and demonstrates optimal performance and efficiency. In addition, due to the unique configuration of the tandem wing with electric control surfaces, the aerodynamics of the vehicle are also improved.

In total, this configuration enables the Nuuva V300 to rise to an altitude of 2 meters and fly a distance of 400 km when fully loaded. If the aircraft has less cargo on board – about 300 kg – the flight range increases exponentially, reaching an impressive 50 km.

Initially, this multicopter was conceived as a means of delivering exclusively commercial cargo. However, the manufacturer subsequently began to present it as an excellent assistant in search and rescue operations, humanitarian flights, and the delivery of parcels to oil platforms.

Distinctive feature

The main feature of this aircraft is its configuration. It differs from the usual configuration for similar aircraft. Transport design and allows loading the aircraft through the opening nose of the fuselage. This is, firstly, more convenient, and, secondly, provides more free space and, accordingly, more payload. The capacity of Nuuva is about 2,8 cubic meters.

The first flight of the hybrid aircraft was performed in hover mode, using a triple-redundant control system. Pipistrel does not disclose details of the flight tests, but assesses them as successful and announces the imminent start of the next stage. Within a year, the second prototype should join the first, and from 2026, the manufacturer promises to put its new product into operation and begin the first deliveries.

What is included

The Nuuva V300 comes with a ground control station developed by Pipistrel's parent company, Textron. The technology used in it will allow operators to control the drone in automatic Beyond Visual Line of Sight mode, including when it transitions from vertical to horizontal flight. The flight plan is pre-loaded into the station.

In addition, this technology integrates a self-monitoring and aircraft condition assessment system that warns of potential malfunctions before they occur. This increases the reliability and safety of the Nuuva V300 flight. As for the cost, it has not yet been announced. However, it is claimed that its operation will cost owners 10 times more than the usual one. helicopter.
