A new drawbridge will be built in St. Petersburg

In the spring of 2025, construction of a new drawbridge will begin in St. Petersburg, which will connect Fayansovaya and Zolnaya streets and will become an important part of the Shirotnaya Highway. The project has already received all the necessary approvals.

The structure will be located in close proximity to the Finland Railway Bridge, which has the status of a cultural heritage site.

Architects and engineers paid special attention to preserving the visual perception of the Finland Bridge. The height of the structure will vary from 9,8 to 10,3 meters, and the length of the new crossing will be 777 meters.

The external appearance of the structure was developed taking into account the creation of a single compositional ensemble with the historical railway bridge. For this purpose, the designers provided, among other things, frameless transparent noise protection.

The drawbridge mechanism is implemented as a single-wing opening system. Each span will rise independently of the other.

A unique feature of the design will be the high speed of deployment: the mechanism will allow the wings to be raised and lowered in a matter of minutes. The exact time has not yet been announced. In the raised position, the spans will create an almost right angle with the road surface.

In addition to the bridge itself, the project includes the construction of a technical room and the installation of fences with gates and wickets.

The construction work on the facility is planned to be carried out in parallel at several points, which will speed up the construction process and reduce transport inconveniences for city residents.

The new structure will be part of the city's large-scale infrastructure transformations. Recall that the early opening of the Bolshoy Smolensky Bridge, which will be the first new drawbridge across the Neva in 40 years, was previously announced.

At present, six of the ten supports have been completed. This bridge will also be equipped with a modern drawbridge mechanism, controlled from technical rooms located underwater.

The construction of a new crossing over the Neva will not only improve the transport accessibility of the districts, but also preserve the architectural harmony of the historical center. Work will begin in the spring of 2025.
