SJ-100 production to be accelerated – new PD-8 engine production to open in Russia

Khabarovsk Krai will help speed up the production of Russian SJ-100 airliners. A new logistics aviation center will be built in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. There will also be a large site intended for the assembly of PD-8 engines.

The construction has not started yet, but the matter has already been decided. This was officially announced by the Governor of Khabarovsk Krai. The logistics center will be built by PAO Yakovlev and on their territory. The details of this project have already been decided and discussed with the management of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC).

PAO Yakovlev is serious about it – the main task of the plant located in Komsomolsk-on-Amur is to set up large-scale production of domestic airliners as quickly as possible. The first specialization center in our country has already been created there. It assembles doors and hatches for four models of passenger aircraft at once. aircraft.

The initiative of PJSC Yakovlev is supported not only by the United Aircraft Corporation. The leadership of Khabarovsk Krai is also "for". After all, the new logistics center is the key to the economic well-being and prosperity of the region.

Moreover, the country needs airliners. Even if they are not ready yet, they are already scheduled for several years in advance. And new jobs will not hurt the region.

By the way, the site for assembling PD-8 engines will not be built for nothing. The fact is that recently in Moscow, at the NAIS exhibition, a new modification of this aircraft engine was presented. It was developed in Rybinsk by UEC-Saturn.

The power unit is made of domestic materials. Its main feature is the use of 3D printing technology in production. Thanks to the latter, it was possible to significantly speed up the processes.

Let us recall that the PD-8 aircraft engine is a two-circuit turbofan power unit. It was created primarily for the SJ-100 aircraft. The engine was not made from scratch - it is based on the more powerful and expensive PD-14.

Rostec is confident that there is little time left before the start of serial production of the PD-8 aircraft engine. In the near future, it will undergo the final stage of testing - flight testing. Soon it will lift the SJ-100 into the air, after which it will only remain to modify the power unit and obtain all the necessary documents.

By the way, flight tests of the PD-8 aircraft engine were planned to begin in 2023. But then the engineers decided that changes needed to be made to the hot part of the power unit. This made the engine more reliable.
Do you think the SJ-100 will soon go into mass production?
