Onega Shipyard to Build Six Barges for the Azov and Black Seas

The shipbuilding and ship repair plant in Petrozavodsk received a contract from Rosmorport to build six self-propelled barges at once – small barges used for loading and unloading large-capacity vessels and more.

According to publicly available information in the procurement sphere, the ships will be delivered to the branch that is engaged in work in the waters of the Azov and Black Seas. The construction of the first copy should be completed by December 2026, the last one – a year later.

The initial cost of the contract, under which the ships will be built, is 6,6 billion rubles. Onega Shipyard was the only participant in the tender, and the issue here is the extremely strict requirements of the customer in relation to the contractor.

In particular, the list of requests included experience in manufacturing at least one vessel with a displacement of more than 1000 tons and at least one barge capable of independently unloading ships.

As you can guess from the tender results, Onega Shipyard already has similar experience: in 2020, it built the Morskaya and Smela ships for Rosmorport, which are still successfully operated in Russian ports.

Under the contract, six single-deck twin-screw barges with a cargo hold volume of at least 600 cubic meters will be launched.

The ships will be used, among other things, for transporting soil that is extracted using dredgers in close proximity to the coast. The barges are designed for productive work in sea conditions with an intensity of up to three points inclusive.

According to the terms of the concluded agreement, five of the six ships will be delivered to the customer evenly throughout 2027. The initial base for them will be the seaport of Temryuk.

The contract worth 1,1 billion rubles for one barge is unprecedented for orders of this level. For example, last year Rosmorport already tried to order the construction of two barges, but the tender for 622,5 million rubles was never completed. There were simply no applications.

Onega Shipyard confirmed its status as a key manufacturer of specialized vessels for Rosmorport, ensuring the development of domestic port infrastructure and strengthening its position in the Russian shipbuilding market.
Do you think they will be able to fulfill the order?
