Lexus Introduces New LX – Price Tag “Shoots Up,” But Is There Any Reason to Overpay?

The premium division of the Japanese company Toyota presented the next generation of the LX SUV. The new model received visual changes, as well as a major "rearrangement" in the trim levels.


The minimum cost of the model has increased by almost 14 thousand dollars (1,4 million rubles). The price increase is due to the abandonment of the basic Standard version. Now the new "minimum" is the Premium configuration with an extended list of options.

The model received improved body rigidity, supports and reconfigured steering. Now LED headlights, illuminated running boards and an electric tailgate are part of the standard equipment.

The hybrid configuration debuts in the off-road-oriented Overtrail version. The modification received the following options:

✅ front and rear differential locks
✅ 18-inch wheels with off-road tires
✅ underbody protection

The exterior of this 700h stands out with its "antichrome" and factory wheel arch extensions. There are also "disadvantages" in the form of an impressive price tag of $115 (RUB 11,5 million).

At the same time, the Overtrail price is not the highest in the line. Above it, there is also the Ultra Luxury package. This version has a four-seater interior with separate seats in the second row. They are equipped with massage, heating and ventilation functions.

Between the rear seats there is a console with a wireless charging pad for mobile devices. There is also a retractable footrest – an ottoman.

The multimedia capabilities are provided by a system with a 12,3-inch display starting from the basic configuration. A separate touch screen is provided for controlling the climate control and the Multi-Terrain Select off-road technology.

All configurations of the updated LX received the proprietary Lexus Safety System+ third-generation safety system. It includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and a collision avoidance system with pedestrian recognition.

Potential buyers can choose from two main powertrain modifications – petrol and hybrid. The second one received the index 700h and its scheme consists of a 3,4-liter V6 engine.

It is supplemented by a twin-turbo system, an electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery. In the case of a purely gasoline modification, the main unit remains unchanged. A 10-speed automatic transmission serves as a transmission.

The total power of the hybrid version is 457 hp with a peak torque of 790 Nm. Acceleration to the first "hundred" takes 6,4 seconds, which is half a second faster than that of the gasoline "brother".

At the same time, the fuel consumption of both versions is almost identical. The manufacturer claims that the SUV will need 12,4 and 10,7 liters of fuel per 100 km in city mode on the highway, respectively.
