The production model of the PD-8 aircraft engine was shown to the general public for the first time

The National Exhibition and Forum of Civil Aviation was held in the capital. The event included a presentation of products by the United Engine Corporation (UEC).


The exhibits include power plants for Russian aircraft и helicopters. The most attention was attracted by the turbofan engine PD-8, developed specifically for a localized modification of the passenger airliner SJ-100.

The new engine was designed and manufactured on the technical base of the company "UEC-Saturn". The engine design uses modern materials of Russian production, including advanced polymers.

The power plant is in the final stages before serial production. To speed up certification, engineers are using computer modeling methods.

This approach allows optimizing the tests and reducing the preparation time. Brief characteristics of the engine are as follows:

✅ length - 3,6 m
✅ weight – 2,3 tons
✅ fan diameter - 1,2 m
✅ maximum thrust – 8 thousand kgf

Let us recall that UEC is part of Rostec. The first deputy general director of the state corporation was present at the event and commented on the presentation:

At the moment, only a few countries in the world are capable of developing and producing aircraft engines. Russia is one of them. We have sufficient technological capabilities, experience and qualified specialists for this mission. At the exhibition, UEC showed several new products, but the PD-8 can rightfully be called the main exhibit.

According to the Rostec representative, the delivered power plants are in the final stages of production. The "promising engine with a thrust of 8 tons" only needs to pass flight tests before entering "series production".

During the exhibition, UEC also presented other developments. Among them, they demonstrated the PD-14 power plant, designed for the MS-21 airliner.

In addition to it, the TV7-117ST-01 unit, developed for the Il-114-300 aircraft, was also present at the stand. Also at the exposition, one could see the VK-1600V – a helicopter power plant.

Along with the exhibition part of the event, the forum participants raised issues regarding the development of the industry. The topic of discussion was the creation of a reserve of replacement engines and the expansion of service capabilities. The modernization of production facilities to improve the quality of technical maintenance of Russian aircraft was separately mentioned.
