Volkswagen Announces Cheapest Crossover
Volkswagen is preparing to introduce its most affordable crossover, the Tera model, which will debut on March 2, 2025. The date was not chosen by chance: the premiere will take place in the midst of the Brazilian carnival, which emphasizes the company's focus on the Latin American market.
Volkswagen Tera is built on the modular MQB-A0 platform, already familiar from the Polo, Virtus, Nivus and T-Cross models. The crossover is compact - its length will be about 4 meters, and the wheelbase is 2566 mm, like the Polo.
Probably car will receive laconic head optics, a wide radiator grille and verified proportions, characteristic of the latest models of the brand.
Even the fairly budget Nivus will be more expensive than the new Tera crossover. Photo: vw.com.br
In the basic version, the crossover will most likely be equipped with a 1,0-liter three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, which is already used in other models of the concern. More expensive configurations will receive a 1,0-liter TSI turbo engine with a capacity of 116 hp.
Two transmission options will be offered: a 5-speed manual transmission for entry-level versions and a classic 6-speed automatic for more expensive trim levels.
The drive will be front-wheel drive only. All-wheel drive, apparently, is not provided even in the top-end configurations.
Like other Volkswagen vehicles in Brazil, the Tera will likely be able to run on ethanol as well as gasoline, an important feature for the local market.
The first and main market for Tera will be Brazil, where the model will be manufactured at the company's local plant. In the Volkswagen lineup, the new model will be positioned below the T-Cross and Nivus.
The model's main competitors will be the compact crossovers Renault Kardian and Fiat Pulse, already presented on the Brazilian market. Tera will also compete with Honda WR-V and Toyota Yaris Cross, and in the future - with the upcoming new Chevrolet models.

Volkswagen has already confirmed that the car will be the most affordable crossover in the line. The expected starting price is from $18500 (about 1,89 million rubles). This makes the new product extremely attractive to buyers looking for an affordable and reliable city crossover.
After a successful start of sales in Brazil, Volkswagen plans to expand the sales geography to include other Latin American countries. It is possible that the model will appear in other developing markets in the future.
