From February 1, cars older than 10 years will be subject to a fine

In Russia 72% cars are over ten years old. From February 1, owners of such cars face a fine of 2 to 5 thousand rubles. This is mainly due to exceeding environmental standards for the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere.

Before signing the completion of the technical inspection, the inspector is required to check the car more thoroughly. Namely: the engine, brake and exhaust systems, operation of the optics, as well as the condition of the body in terms of corrosion. A refusal can be received for increased emission standards and for a crack in the glass. Information about passing the technical inspection will be sent to a single database - EAISTO. A traffic police officer can now issue an order to undergo an unscheduled technical inspection for a car with an increased level of harmful emissions, faulty optics or non-working ABS.

The level of the fine depends on the degree of pollution of the exhaust gases and other defects: the more of them, the stricter the punishment. Now the owner of an old car has two ways out of the current situation: invest in a major overhaul of his "iron horse" or buy another, less old one. The introduction of new requirements, according to their authors, helps to speed up the process of updating the Russian car fleet.
