Ford unveils V8 engine with over XNUMX hp power – to spite electric cars

Ford has unveiled a new petrol engine. This is the Megazilla 2,0 – a huge V8 with a volume of 7,3 litres. The power unit develops over 1 hp. These parameters were achieved by installing a powerful turbocharger.


The new Megazilla family engines are expected to go on sale towards the end of 2025, in the fourth quarter. The manufacturer hopes that the power units will be in demand among tuning enthusiasts.

Let us recall that the original naturally aspirated Megazilla engine with the same volume of 7,3 liters produces 615 hp. In the 2,0 version, the power unit received a powerful turbocharger from the famous manufacturer Whipple. After that, the engine began to produce more than 1 "horses".


Ford claims that the turbocharged engine will be as durable as the naturally aspirated Megazilla. The whole point is that it has been seriously redesigned. Forged crankshaft, pistons and connecting rods have appeared.

As for the cost of the new engine, it has not been announced yet. However, you can calculate this amount yourself, albeit approximately.

The Megazilla naturally aspirated 7,3-liter engine costs $23 (about 2,5 million rubles). The Whipple turbocharger costs a little less than half that amount. Plus, you need to add assembly and forged parts.

In the end, it comes to about 35 thousand dollars (3,42 million rubles). This is more expensive than they ask for a brand new Ford Mustang with an EcoBoost engine in the US. However, for tuning enthusiasts, this is unlikely to be a problem. They are used to not sparing money.

By the way, there is one serious nuance that the manufacturer mentions. The new Megazilla 2,0 engine is not designed for standard cars, allowed to participate in road traffic. The power unit is suitable only for SUVs.

However, another turbocharged V2,0 engine will go on sale together with the Megazilla 8. Its volume is “only” 5,0 liters with a power of 800 hp. This power unit can be installed under the hoods of passenger cars.


The cost of the five-liter turbo engine is also unknown. But considering the price of the naturally aspirated V8, Whipple compressor, forged parts and assembly, it will be about 25 thousand dollars (2,44 million rubles).

Both engines will receive a 2-year or 24-mile warranty. This is not much, but usually nothing like this is provided for such power units. After all, these are not serial engines, but tuning units.
