SpaceX Challenges NASA - Construction of GigaBay Complex Begins

Commercial company SpaceX is going to surpass NASA in assembling spacecraft. Construction of the huge GigaBay center has begun. It is an analogue and competitor to the VAB building. This is where spacecraft are assembled for NASA.

Experts say that SpaceX has every chance to surpass its more famous competitor. Firstly, the company's management has the finances to implement this project. Secondly, the path to building such a base has already been passed. SpaceX already has Starbase in Texas.

During the implementation of the last project, they started with tent cities and ended with a full-fledged rocket factory. Now in Texas, two large buildings are operating. The first is HighBay. There, they assemble segments of spaceships.

The second building is MegaBay. They are working on the Starship project there. Each of the factory buildings is capable of working with four rocket stages at once. This will speed up the implementation of projects.

There is already one global complex in the Florida NASA center, owned by SpaceX. This is the Roberts Road facility, and it is better known for "Hangar X". There, rockets are prepared for launch and restored after flights, no matter whether they were successful or not.

The new GigaBay will be part of the Roberts Road development. Construction has already begun, with the first large tent for surveyors and engineers erected north of the vast complex.

According to design documentation, GigaBay will be comparable in size to the Texas Starbase. It will be able to work on several Starship rockets at once.

Of course, Elon Musk is a well-known fan of rumors and scandals. Therefore, some believe that all the hype about the construction has no real basis. They say that putting up a temporary tent and building a full-fledged plant are two different things.

But anyone can verify that GigaBay exists. The US Aviation Administration has a document confirming the project. Moreover, it is already being implemented.

According to the technical specifications, the GigaBay building will be smaller than NASA's VAB. But SpaceX will try to equip the new center with the latest technology. And the company has all the means to do this - both engineering and financial.

Let us recall that Florida is also home to the LC-36 launch complex, which belongs to the Blue Origin brand. It is not yet clear whether SpaceX will cooperate with it in the future or build its own site.
