Icebreaker "Kapitan Chadayev" took part in large-scale Arctic exercises
The icebreaker "Kapitan Chadayev" of the Murmansk branch of "Rosmorport" successfully took part in the large-scale exercises "Safe Arctic - 2025", which took place in the waters of the Barents Sea.
The event, organized within the framework of the federal project to ensure safety and sustainable development of the Arctic region, allowed to practice a set of actions to eliminate emergency situations. Including towing of ships and elimination of oil spills.
During the exercise, the crew performed several key tasks. One of the first was icebreaker escort of a transport convoy through difficult ice patches. On certain sections of the route, the ice thickness reached 1,5 meters, which required the vessel to operate at maximum capacity.

The maneuvers were conducted in difficult weather conditions: the air temperature dropped to -18 °C, the wind speed reached 25 m/s, visibility in some areas dropped to 500 meters. Despite this, the icebreaker successfully completed the task, ensuring the passage of the convoy.
The next stage of the exercise included responding to a simulated disaster – a signal was received about damage to the ship’s hull and the threat of environmental pollution from oil products.
Within an hour, the crew set up an emergency headquarters and began eliminating the simulated spill using booms, sorbents and pumping units.
Coastal services, including specialists from the Russian Emergencies Ministry and Rosprirodnadzor, were involved in coordinating the work. The operation demonstrated the crew's readiness for such situations: control over the simulated spill was established within 40 minutes.
Additionally, new methods for forecasting ice conditions were tested on the icebreaker. Specialists used digital models that take into account satellite data, weather forecasts and hydrological parameters of the region.
The icebreaker "Kapitan Chadayev" is a vessel of the 110K project. It was created to operate in the coastal regions of the Arctic and maintain navigation in ice conditions. Its power plant produces 7300 horsepower.

The ship can overcome ice up to 1,2 meters thick for up to 40 days without refueling. The hull length is 75 m, width is 8 m, draft is 6 m.
The icebreaker is equipped with a modern navigation system, including electronic cartographic systems and radar stations, as well as satellite communications for prompt data exchange with coastal services.
The results of “Safe Arctic 2025” confirmed the need for further development of technologies and coordination of services responsible for the safety of navigation in northern latitudes.
