Large-scale upgrade of BAM and Trans-Siberian Railway – main events of the month

Russian specialists have completed several major projects to modernize the railway infrastructure. In Khabarovsk Krai, a second track was put into operation on a section of the Baikal-Amur Mainline.

It is located between Kenada and Hokaiti stations. Now, this part of the route, connecting Sovetskaya Gavan and Komsomolsk-on-Amur, has significantly increased its capacity.

The construction conditions can be described as difficult. The work was complicated by the intensive movement of trains.

To implement the project, specialists also had to change the relief in this area and build additional structures along the path of the reservoirs. The following subtasks were completed:

✅ processing of more than 350 thousand cubic meters of soil
✅ construction of 3 bridges
✅ reconstruction of 12 culverts

In addition, modern digital train movement control systems were introduced on the section. The ZHAT division of GK 1520 was responsible for them.

The work on widening the highway, in turn, was carried out by engineers from the company "Bamstroymekhanizatsiya", which is part of the "Railways" division of Natsproektstroy. In total, about 10 km of new tracks with accompanying infrastructure facilities appeared on this section.

Another significant event on the key highways of our country was the opening of a new siding at kilometer 2406. The section is located on the Ulak-Tynda line and connects the settlements of Amut and Dzhelingra.

The construction of this facility improved the organization of the movement of oncoming and following trains. The work was carried out in permafrost conditions, so the construction of the siding involved additional manipulations to stabilize the railway track. They required 64 thousand cubic meters of specialized stone mixture.

The length of the modernized section was 2,5 km. It had 7 new turnouts and a bridge. In addition, the work included the installation of communication devices, as well as signaling, centralization and blocking (SCB).

The list of significant events also includes the launch of double-track traffic on the Unerchik-Irbeyskaya section, which is the beginning of the Eastern polygon. Within the framework of this project, 34 km of new tracks were laid, 7 bridges were erected, as well as 42 km of contact lines.

The work began back in 2022 and now the facility has been commissioned. The modernization is aimed at simplifying passenger traffic. The Kozila siding was transformed into a full-fledged station-stop. Based on the totality of the work carried out, the capacity of the section increased by 3,5 times.
