Frame BAIC BJ60 began to be assembled in Russia – Chinese SUV is ready to conquer bad roads

The Russian Avtotor plant has announced the start of serial assembly of the BAIC BJ60. This is a frame SUV that will soon appear in the brand's dealerships. When exactly, they have not yet reported, but they promise that this significant event will happen in the "near future".


Prices for the BAIC BJ60 have not yet been announced either. However, since the SUV is larger than the BJ40 model, it will cost no less than four million rubles, and most likely closer to five.

First parties cars, which are already being assembled at Avtotor's production facilities, will have only one power unit. This is a diesel with a hybrid "add-on". The latter is a starter-generator.


Let us recall that sales of the BAIC BJ60 were promised to start in 2023. That was when the SUV was officially announced in Russia. But things stalled – in the end, the manufacturer decided to establish local assembly.

Representatives of the Avtotor plant said that they are set for long-term production of the new model. This is far from a "screwdriver" assembly. Especially for the BAIC BJ60, it was necessary to develop and produce new equipment, prepare a conveyor line, and load the necessary software.

The new SUV for Russia looks impressive. Its front end resembles the Jeep Wagoneer in design, and from other angles the car makes you think of the Toyota Land Cruiser. Overall, it turned out to be a self-sufficient model with an original design. And the fact that it resembles SUVs of more famous brands is more of a marketing ploy than copying.

The length, width and height of the BAIC BJ60 are 5,04 x 1,95 x 1,92 meters. Under the hood of the car at the first stage there will be only one turbodiesel two-liter engine with a capacity of 163 hp. The low degree of forcing hints that the engine is resourceful and will not fail quickly.


To assist the power unit, a starter-generator was added, making the car a "mild" hybrid. Due to this, the SUV is more economical in urban conditions.

The gearbox will also be the only one. It is an eight-speed automatic. The drive is only full, Part-time, that is, the off-road potential is serious. There is even a downshift. They did not forget about the interwheel differential locks.

It is not yet known in what trim levels the BAIC BJ60 will be offered in our country. Let us remind you that in China it is available in both five- and seven-seater versions.
