Geparda turns VW Up into a fun tricycle

Geparda has transformed a popular city car The Volkswagen Up, which was discontinued in 2023, is a unique trike in the L5e category.

The project is aimed at young drivers aged 16 and over who are allowed to drive in Europe. transport with driving licenses of category A1.

Using the original VW Up platform, the Geparda has implemented design changes that ensure the vehicle still meets the strict L5e safety standards.

Externally, the tricycle looks like a three-wheeled vehicle, but in fact it is a four-wheeled machine with a redesigned rear axle and two decorative wheel arches.

The engine, which was originally a 1,0-liter three-cylinder Volkswagen unit, has also undergone some modification. The power of the power plant has been reduced to 20 hp by reprogramming the control unit.

The engine modifications allowed the tricycle to meet legal requirements and at the same time accelerate to a maximum of 110 km/h. This makes it suitable for highway travel.

The interior of the car retains the comfort and equipment of the original VW Up, including air conditioning, heated seats and other options. This distinguishes the Geparda from its competitors in the L5e category, such as the Citroën Ami and Renault Twizy. The latter two offer a simpler interior and meager equipment.

It is important to note that the Geparda project includes a number of legal and visual modifications. All original Volkswagen logos have been removed to avoid intellectual property violations.

Two copies went on sale: a two-door and a four-door version. The first version with a mileage of 25 thousand kilometers is priced at 22850 euros (2,42 million rubles), the second costs 23500 euros or 2,47 million rubles at the current exchange rate.

Both vehicles are of interest not only as vehicles, but also as collectibles. Especially now, when only two examples have been produced, and it is unknown how many tricycles will ultimately be assembled.

The Geparda, despite its limited power, represents a rare example of successfully adapting an existing platform to meet stringent regulatory requirements.
