Shaanxi Y-9: How China's An-12 Analogue Outperformed the Soviet Original

The Soviet An-12 is legendary aircraft, although its production ceased in 1973. But it is still in operation in Russia. And in other countries that inherited it from the USSR, there are no plans to remove the "old men" from their lines. This alone speaks of the incredible reliability of the aircraft. It would seem that what could the An-12 have in common with the Chinese Shaanxi Y-9, which made its first flight in 2010? Yes, they are similar in appearance, but maybe this is just a coincidence?

In fact, the plane is a modern version of the legendary Soviet model. Once, back in the 1960s, the Chinese received a license for the An-12. Then it was revoked for political reasons, but it was too late. This is how the Shaanxi Y-8 and its various modifications appeared. And in the new model, the Shaanxi Y-9, the Chinese added design ideas from the American Lockheed Martin C-130J. The end result can be seen on the OKandrew Planespotting Channel. There, the Shaanxi Y-9 is just leaving for another flight. Only it smokes mercilessly. And it is unclear whether this is the fuel they poured in, or whether this was the original idea. Who knows, maybe this is a veil for conspiracy...
Do you think Shaanxi Y-9 is better than An-12?
