Russian-Belarusian aircraft Osvey to be launched in 2026

Belarus is preparing for an important event in its aviation history – the release of the first joint light aircraft with Russia. Aircraft "Osvey". As reported by the Chairman of the State Military-Industrial Committee of Belarus Dmitry Pantus, the production of a prototype is scheduled for 2026.

The project was launched in 2024 and has already received state support both in Belarus and Russia. Its implementation will be an important step in the development of the aviation industry of the Republic of Belarus, since it is on its basis that the country plans to create its own aviation school.

The main contractor for the project on the Russian side is the Ural Plant of Civil Aviation (UZGA). The Belarusian 558th Aircraft Repair Plant will be responsible for key stages of production and secondary work.

As for the aircraft itself, the Osway is designed for 19 passengers. Its capabilities are enough to compete with the Czech L-410NG, the Canadian DHC-6 300 Twin Otter, the American Cessna-408 SkyCourier and the Indonesian N-219.

The new aircraft will become a sought-after technology for transportation in regions with limited transport infrastructure, including remote areas of Primorye and the Far East.

The global goal of the project is to give sufficient impetus to the development of regional aviation, especially in the context of difficulties caused by sanctions and the urgent need for import substitution.

It is no secret that problems with the supply of foreign components have significantly affected the production schedules of other Russian aircraft, such as the SJ-100, MS-21 and Il-114-300. In this regard, the Osvey project will become an example of successful interstate cooperation.

Successful implementation of the project will also contribute to the modernization of the transport system and the creation of new jobs, as well as strengthen economic ties between Belarus and Russia.

Dmitry Pantus noted that the launch of joint production of flight equipment will be not only a technical breakthrough, but also an important political achievement, demonstrating a high level of trust and cooperation between the countries.

The first flights of the Osvey are expected immediately after certification, which is scheduled for the end of 2026. The aircraft has every chance of becoming a new standard for regional air transportation.
