Large-scale expansion of the M-5 "Ural" highway is gaining momentum

In the Chelyabinsk region, repair and expansion of a significant federal highway continues. Documentation for a plan to renew the section from 1652 to 1670 km, located in the Katav-Ivanovsky and Satkinsky districts, was approved.


The work on this section will be carried out in two stages. First, repair work will be carried out on the section from 1652 to 1660 km.

The project includes the creation of additional lanes and the modernization of the accompanying road infrastructure. In total, 83 kilometers of the M-5 highway will be expanded and repaired.


Another important element of the plan is the construction of a 19-kilometer bypass of Sim. It will allow a significant portion of the traffic flow to be taken outside the city limits. The road is being built according to class 1B standards, type "Speedy".

The construction of the bypass is taking place in difficult conditions. Avtodor engineers are laying the route through mountainous terrain. The difference in altitude on this section reaches 200 m, which significantly increases the volume of drilling and blasting operations.


At the moment, the excavation work on the bypass under construction has been completed. Specialists have drilled 13 thousand wells up to 10 m deep. Modern emulsion compositions are laid in each of them. To organize a suitable foundation, they "cut off" about 450 thousand cubic meters of rock mass.

The M-5 highway modernization project also includes the following structures:

"Ural" is an important logistics artery of Russia. Its length is 3,2 thousand km. M-5 connects Moscow with Yekaterinburg and opens access to the Western regions of China through transitions to the M-7 "Volga" and M-12 "East" highways.


Let us recall that previous work on the Ural highway was carried out on sections from 1780 to 1790 km between Chelyabinsk and Miass. After reconstruction, it was possible to increase the road's capacity to 30 thousand. cars per day by eliminating bottlenecks that created traffic jams.

Lighting was also modernized and the road was straightened on this section. The restoration of the emergency section from 1564 to 1578 km deserves special mention. Repair measures allowed to significantly reduce the number of accidents in this part of the M-5.

The complete reconstruction of the Ural highway is planned to be completed by 2028. By that time, the highway will become four-lane along its entire length.
