Hyundai Unveils New 'Drift King'

The South Korean company presented a special version of the electric hatchback Ioniq 5 N. The model received the index DK, which stands for "Drift King".

The new model was developed in collaboration with the iconic Japanese drifter Keiichi Tsuchiya, who performed under the pseudonym of the same name. Among the visual differences from the production version, the first to be highlighted is the aggressive aerodynamic "body kit" made of carbon fiber.

The kit includes a front splitter, side skirts, diffuser overlays and a spoiler with a gooseneck mount. The body elements not only improve the hatchback's exterior, but also provide additional downforce of up to 93 kg at a speed of 140 km/h.

The debut model was demonstrated at the Tokyo Motor Show. It is painted in a matte white shade with glossy black accents. Of course, it couldn’t do without the branded “badges” – the Drift King logos adorn the body on the rear pillars and trunk lid.

Finally, the Ioniq 5 N DK received forged 21-inch wheels. As in the case of the "body kit", they have more than just a decorative function. The "wheels" reduce the unsprung weight by 10,6 kg, which in sports use has a positive effect on handling. car.

Hyundai's representative office comments on the announcement of the special edition as follows:

We have released something unusual. The already "charged" car received a whole set of high-performance modifications. Now the special version is worthy of Tsuchiya himself, and he confirms it. All modifications will allow you to squeeze the maximum out of the Ioniq 5 N both on city roads and on race tracks.

In addition to the visual changes, Hyundai engineers also worked on the technical part of the car. The "King of Drift" received an improved chassis. After testing several types and combinations, the team decided to keep the electronically controlled shock absorbers.

The same ones are installed on the "stock" Ioniq 5 N. At the same time, the springs were replaced with branded H&R ones. As a result, the clearance was reduced by 15 mm.

The list of improvements also included the braking system. The DK Edition received six-piston monoblock calipers. They are made of duralumin and equipped with heat-resistant pads. The area of the active elements was increased by 54%.

There was no "intrigue" in terms of the power plant. Under the hood of the special version of the Ioniq 5 N is the same configuration as in the serial one.

Two electric motors with a total power of 641 hp are responsible for performance. The already good reserve will be “pushed” by the proprietary N Torque Distribution and N Drift Optimizer systems.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition is not a show car, but a full-fledged production model. Japan and South Korea are among the first countries where the special edition will debut. Sales will start this spring.

Later, the model's "geography" is expected to expand. Unfortunately, the timing and, most importantly, the cost of the special modification have not yet been announced.
