BMW Shows iDrive System with Head-Up Display

At the CES 2025 exhibition in Las Vegas, German manufacturer BMW demonstrated to the public its advanced iDrive control system. The central element of this technology is a panoramic display, called Panoramic Vision. It turns the windshield car into a giant screen with augmented reality functionality.

The innovation covers the entire width of the windshield, giving the driver and passengers access to key information. Data on speed, navigation, road signs and battery status are projected directly onto the windshield, so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road to read them. This is a big plus for road safety.

BMW Panoramic Vision technology is complemented by a central display with matrix illumination, which maintains the clarity of the image in all lighting conditions.

An important element of the system was the redesigned steering wheel, which received significantly improved feedback and backlighting of the function keys. These measures made the process of driving the car intuitive and convenient.

Additionally, the system can be equipped with a 3D Head-Up Display screen, which projects navigation data and information about the assistants’ work into the driver’s field of vision. This also improves spatial orientation.

The proprietary BMW Operating System X, based on the open source Android operating system, offers a high degree of personalization and intuitive operation. It supports the integration of AI technologies and voice commands. There is compatibility with external applications, including streaming services and gaming platforms.

The system adapts to the driver's preferences: you can upload personal photos, customize the color scheme of the backlight and interface. The HypersonX soundtrack is responsible for full immersion, adapting to the road situation.
The first production BMW model with the new iDrive technology will be shown at the end of 2025. It will be the updated BMW X3.

The new generation of iDrive demonstrates BMW's revolutionary approach to human-vehicle interaction. The technologies used in Panoramic Vision and other components not only make driving safe, but also set a new standard for comfort.
