One of the most advanced rocket engines is presented – the “man-made” Aerospike

It has become known that a relatively young technology startup LEAP 71, headquartered in Dubai (UAE), has successfully tested its new development. This is, as stated, one of the most advanced liquid rocket engines, called Aerospike. The power unit was created from scratch in just a few weeks using the new generation Noyron computing device - the company's own unique product.

Its "assembly" was carried out in cooperation with Aconity3D on an industrial 3D printer using advanced aerospace copper alloy (CuCrZr). When the printing process itself was finished, all excess was removed from the engine, heat treated and placed on a test stand. There, according to the creators, it worked on the first try. The start of the Aerospike fire tests took place on December 18 at an aircraft manufacturing center in the UK.

The advanced rocket engine operates on cryogenic liquid oxygen and kerosene, and demonstrates a thrust force of 5000 Newtons. It differs from its analogues in its more compact dimensions and at the same time demonstrates optimal efficiency at various atmospheric pressures, including the vacuum of space.

Aerospike was developed without the usual bell-shaped nozzle and the spike was placed in the center of a toroidal combustion chamber. This solved the main problem associated with its cooling under critical temperatures reaching 3500 ºC.

According to the company's CEO Josephine Lissner, this was made possible by a complex system of cooling channels located inside the chamber and filled with cryogenic oxygen, while the outside is cooled by kerosene fuel.

LEAP 71 is very excited about the experience gained. This approach, using the impressive capabilities of AI, will significantly reduce the time for designing units and their further refinement after passing tests. The latter, by the way, will continue next year. The main goal is to bring Aerospikes to the level of a promising rocket engine suitable for installation on modern spacecraft.
