UAC has prepared 40 SJ-100 and MS-21 airliners – they are awaiting additional equipment
The United Aircraft Corporation has prepared several dozen airliners. But all of them are unassembled due to economic sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Among them are only SJ-100 and MS-21 – approximately 20 copies of each model. The former are located in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, and the latter on the territory of the Irkutsk aircraft plant.
The question may arise - why spend money, accumulating expensive liners. After all, they are all in different stages of completion. Wouldn't it be easier to finish a few copies and sell them?

But the problem is that UAC has many more orders. But there is no possibility to fulfill them yet. After all, the airliners were initially developed in cooperation with foreign brands. Therefore, the decision was made to accumulate aircraft.
As soon as the opportunity arises, they will be finalized. Naturally, this will take several times less time than it would take to build airliners from scratch.
Let us recall that the MS-21 received its certificate back in 2021. It was assumed that all serial airliners would be equipped with Pratt & Whitney engines from the USA and a wing made of foreign composites. Most of the equipment is also foreign.
But in 2022, almost all partners refused to work with the United Aircraft Corporation. We had to engage in import substitution, a process that continues to this day.
The SSJ-100 was developed according to the same scheme. At the government level, it was decided to remake this airliner into a new, import-substituting winged machine – the SJ-100. It should be equipped with Russian PD-8 engines.
The MS-21 will receive PD-14 power units instead of Pratt & Whitney engines. These airliners, like the import-substituting SJ-100, should begin certification flights in 2025.

There are no serial Russian engines for Superjet New yet. Therefore, the experimental aircraft are equipped with the same power units that the SSJ-100 received. This is SaM-146 from the joint venture PowerJet.
Thanks to foreign engines, the SJ-100 has already managed to pass about 30% of all tests. In the process, Russian import-substituting systems, equipment and units are tested and adapted. The experimental SJ-100s make an average of one flight per day.
All Russian airlines are awaiting deliveries of the MS-21 and SJ-100. They have already been postponed several times, but the import substitution process is underway.
