SSJ-100 New with Russian engines begins flight tests

At present, preparations are underway to launch mass production. aircraft, equipped with domestic aircraft engines PD-8, and to the start of flight tests of the first two samples of the latest SSJ-100 New. They are currently testing equipment and "trying out" the passenger cabin. This was reported by "Izvestia" UAC representative.

The engine is expected to be ready, and with it the first test flight of the deeply import-substituting airliner, at the beginning of next year. The aircraft will be prepared for this important moment in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, where the assembly shop is currently being reconstructed in full swing and a new hangar has been put into operation.

In total, during the testing period, the all-Russian aircraft is expected to take off up to 200 times. During this year, UEC intends to transfer only six PD-8 engines into operation. They can be used to equip up to three aircraft. At the same time, today about 20 aircraft are at a certain level of readiness.

As for the planned dates for reaching a more or less adequate volume of Russian aircraft production, the period announced is from 2027. Thus, starting from 2026, during which the manufacturer intends to deliver 44 new engines (for 22 airliners), the number of aircraft produced should reach an annual figure of 30 units.

It is at this point, as experts predict, that the shortage of aircraft will begin to manifest itself very acutely. Even now, against the backdrop of growing demand for air travel, both on domestic and international routes, the occupancy rate of seats in some places reaches 96%. Therefore, supplies of domestic aircraft will be in great demand.

At the same time, no one is planning to abandon foreign equipment yet. The plans include developing a strategy for maintaining the airworthiness of foreign-made aircraft and finding solutions for deliveries, as well as establishing our own production of components for them. So the displacement of Boeings, Airbuses and Superjets equipped with Franco-Russian SaM146 engines will occur gradually.
