Why is the locomotive in the middle of the train?

When one locomotive is coupled to the back and the other to the front, this picture is still understandable. It turns out like an electric train: first it goes one way, and then, so as not to change the coupling, to the other. But here the locomotive is right in the middle of the train. So what: can it go there and back? But then you can't envy the driver - it will be difficult to look ahead from behind the carriages.

Perhaps this arrangement is caused by the need to make some maneuver at the station, and then change the coupling and go "normally". However, many have probably noticed a train with a locomotive in the middle already on the route, on the way. It turns out that such a connection is used in cases when there is an urgent need to let some a train, delayed due to, for example, repair work or an accident.

In fact, there is more than one locomotive in the middle: there is a second, head locomotive. Two trains pull to the nearest station. Then each train gets a “personal” electric or diesel locomotive. Sometimes we had to pull three or even four freight trains. This is all understandable: one locomotive is not able to pull so many cars. But here the second question arises: how is it all controlled?
