MS-21 received another important domestically produced part

Project for localization of Russian narrow-body aircraft Aircraft continues to gain momentum. This time the aircraft received a set of parts from NPP Tekhnologiya.

The plant delivered a set of glass blocks for the MS-21 cabin. Preliminary tests were conducted according to the additional state certification program.

The test consisted of a set of measures to check the reliability of the structure. The study included direct impact of an object weighing 1,8 kg.

This parameter is identical to the weight of an average bird. The tests were conducted at a speed of over 600 km/h. The products of the Technologiya enterprise successfully passed all tests, confirming the calculated characteristics.

The studies were carried out using an installation in the nose section of the aircraft fuselage. Incidentally, similar tests were also carried out on the glazing of another Russian airliner – the SJ-100.

The kit transferred for the MS-21 included the following sets of glass blocks:

✅ frontal
✅ side
✅ rear

A significant part of the cockpit is made of high-strength panteplex. The material consists of five main layers. Two of them are made of silicate glass, one of polycarbonate, and the remaining ones are adhesive and perform a technological function.

The connection of the structure is also provided by a special film. Its production is carried out by the V. A. Kargin Polymer Research Institute, located in the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The use of high-tech materials is due to the increased strength of glass blocks. According to the manufacturer, the reliability of their development is 6-8 times higher than that of similar structures. In addition, the advantages also include the ability to create glazing of any geometric shape.

The product includes an electric heating system. It not only prevents fogging, but also ensures the preservation of optical properties even with sudden temperature changes.

The project to create a Russian glazing system for aircraft was launched in 2019. At the same time, a corresponding decree was adopted to replace other imported materials and units.

It includes not only the development of an alternative to foreign glass blocks, but also a wide range of tests. It includes testing for strength, tightness, resistance to extreme temperatures and the effects of static electricity.

The replacement of foreign parts on domestic aircraft continues to increase in volume. Enterprises developing and producing glass blocks will also maintain the production pace. In particular, by 2028, the volume of deliveries of kits for the MS-21 will increase by 11 times, and for the SJ-100 – by 3 times.
