Sapsan trains want to speed up

The official representative of Russian Railways shared its prospects for the development of Sapsan. The management of the state company is considering options for "acceleration" train.


The capabilities of the machine allow increasing this characteristic to the mark of 300 km/h. The technical documentation for the Sapsan states that the design of the train is designed for such a speed. During testing, the drivers managed to confirm this theory in practice.

However, in addition to the technical capabilities of the Sapsan, there are other factors that affect the duration of trips. These include infrastructure features, as well as the degree of congestion in specific areas. Because of them, the speed has to be limited to 250 km/h at the software level.


An example is the connection between St. Petersburg and Moscow. At the moment, this direction is one of the busiest in Russian Railways.

However, even in such conditions the train reaches the maximum permitted speed. In particular, this concerns the sections "Malaya Vishera - Burga", "Leontyevo - Vyshny Volochek" and "Mstinsky Most - Okulovka". The management of "Russian Railways" considers the above sections as debut "acceleration zones".

It is noteworthy that the name "Sapsan" was not chosen by chance. The train is capable of developing similar dynamics with the bird of the same name. At the moment of diving, the speed of the predator's flight reaches 322 km/h.
