Reconstruction of the Chuysky Tract completed ahead of schedule
The project to repair one of the most picturesque routes R-256 included three sections. The total volume of work carried out on the sections was 23 kilometers.
The bulk of the tasks were carried out between 234 and 258 km. This zone passes through the Kosikhinsky District in the Altai Territory. Half of the planned work was completed ahead of schedule.
On the above-mentioned section, transition strips and U-turn pockets were modernized and in some places built "from scratch". The workers' tasks also included equipping bus stops and installing modern road signs.
According to the contractor's report, the volume of excavation work alone exceeded 200 cubic meters. In addition to restoring the road surface, the project also included the following activities:
✅ strengthening the existing foundation
✅ installation of fences
✅ reorganization of electrical and lighting
✅ web expansion
It is noteworthy that the section between 243 and 250 km was scheduled to be completed only in 2026. Increased efficiency and the use of modern methods allowed the contractor to complete the work ahead of schedule.
The accelerated reconstruction of the site, in turn, not only became a continuation of the already formed trend, but also opened up opportunities for further modernization. Since 2022, contractors have commissioned sites ahead of schedule four times:
✅ from 173 to 183 km
✅ from 216 to 223 km
✅ from 135 to 143 km
✅ from 341 to 344 km
Of course, the major repairs of the Chuisky Tract are not limited to just the Altai Territory. In the republic itself, renovations of sections in the Maiminsky District are also planned.
Territorially, this zone runs along the Katun River and is one of the busiest parts of the entire route. The demand for this transport artery is beyond doubt, as there are many popular tourist sites along its route. One of them is the ski resort in the village of Manzherok.
According to available statistics, the flow of tourists to the region increased by 35% last year. The number of guests amounted to 700 thousand people. Given such dynamics, the restoration and development of transport infrastructure is a priority task.
In addition to reconstruction work, a new highway is expected to be built in 2025. The project is largely focused on creating bypasses around populated areas. This will improve throughput and increase safety.
Modernization tasks for the R-256 are also planned for the long term. For example, the section from 428 to 496 km, located between the border of the Altai Territory and Ust-Sema, will be converted into a four-lane road. Subsequently, such expansion is expected along the entire length from Gorno-Altaisk to Novosibirsk.
